New London - Twenty members of the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital medical staff have been honored this year in Connecticut magazine's annual list of "Top Docs."

"All of us at L&M are very proud that 20 of our physicians have been designated as 2012 Top Docs in Connecticut magazine," said Bruce Cummings, hospital president and chief executive officer. "Our 'Top Docs,' selected by their peers for providing excellence in patient care, represent the best of what L&M has been doing for a century: caring for our friends, family and neighbors right here at home."

Each year, the magazine conducts a poll of more than 5,000 doctors throughout the state with the question: "If a loved one needed expert care in a particular field, whom (other than yourself) would you recommend?"

This year's L&M "Top Docs" are:

Dr. Mary Ann Bentz, dermatology; Dr. Patrick Doherty, neurosurgery; Dr. Terrence Doherty, family medicine; Dr. Daniella Duke, dermatology; Dr. John Frese, gastroenterology; Dr. Richard Fraser, urology; Dr. Joseph Gadbaw, infectious diseases, Dr. Alan Greenwald, gastroenterology, Dr. Phyllis Holtzman, pediatrics; Dr. Christopher Hutchins, orthopedic surgery; Dr. Preston Lamberton, endocrinology; Dr. Robert Levin, rheumatology; Dr. Daniel Moalli, neurology; Dr. Chris Morren, internal medicine; Dr. Joseph O'Keefe, physical medicine; Dr. George Ouellette, gastroenterology; Dr. Anthony Quinn, urology; Dr. Amarilis Talavera-Briggs, psychiatry; Dr. Dean Willis, general surgery; and Dr. Eric Wolf, dermatology.

Connecticut Magazine reported that the results from 2012 made up the largest group of "Top Docs" ever - 840 doctors in 30 categories.
