East Lyme – The town’s first selectman announced this morning that he will seek the Republican nomination for the Second Congressional District.

First Selectman Paul Formica (R-East Lyme), a small business owner and three-term selectman, will run against incumbent Congressman Joe Courtney (D-2nd District).

Formica said in a written statement that the time has come for “immediate action.”

“It’s time we look at where we are as a country and take immediate action to guarantee that the “American Dream” will be available for every generation of future Americans. We need to be able to leave our kids a truly “United” States of America that is safe and financially secure,” Formica said.

According to the release, Formica has invested in infrastructure, stabilized taxes and created economic opportunities in East Lyme and has 21 years of municipal experience and 30 years of business expertise which he says he'll bring to Washington, D.C.

He plans to make a formal announcement on Tuesday in East Lyme, Colchester, Enfield and Vernon.
