Customers of Connex Credit Union are being warned of a text messaging scam.

Police say Connex customers are receiving text messages stating that their Connex Credit/Debit account has been deactivated and to contact a phone to reactivate their account. When the person calls the number they are met by an automated voice prompting them to enter their Connex account number, PIN, and to enter a new PIN to reactivate their account. Once the customer has completed the process, their accounts are accessed by parties at locations out of state and money is withdrawn. Connex has advised their customers who are victims of the sam to contact local police and the website IC3.gov to report it.

Police say you should not give out personal information, including account numbers and PIN information, unless you are absolutely certain of the veracity of the party requesting it. If you believe that you are the victim of a scam, contact your credit/debit account issuer, your local police, and the IC3.GOV website. The Guilford Police Department may be reached anytime by telephone at 203 453 8061, by walking into 400 Church St Guilford CT, or online at the Guilford Police Department website.
