Sun reach roster limit by waiving Spencer

The Connecticut Sun announced Wednesday that they have waived guard Sidney Spencer, paring the roster to the WNBA limit of 11.

Second-round draft choice Chay Shecog, a 6-foot-5 center from North Carolina, made the team.

Spencer was signed by the Sun on Feb. 28, 2012. She averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in three preseason games. She scored had 10 points and four rebounds against New York May 7, six points and two rebounds against Minnesota May 10 and two rebounds and one steal at Washington on Monday.

The Sun will open their 10th regular season on Saturday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Liberty at 4 p.m. They return home to host the Liberty the next day at Mohegan Sun Arena at 5 p.m.
