North Stonington – The town's resident state trooper arrested a New Haven man Friday who allegedly tried to break into a car parked in a day care center parking lot on Route 2.

Police said a witness heard her alarm sounding and saw Daniel Velazquez, 36, walking away from her car in the Pollywogs Child Development Center parking lot. Police later found Velazquez, wearing a black winter coat with a hood, walking eastbound on Route 2. Police charged Velazquez with criminal attempt to commit burglary and breach of peace.

Police said Velazquez was released on $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear June 1 in New London Superior Court.
