Dr. Kyle B. McClaine, emergency medical services director at The William W. Backus Hospital, received a statewide Emergency Medical Services award Monday in ceremonies at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The award, given during National Trauma Month and National EMS Week, honors one physician for his commitment to pre-hospital emergency care.

As the EMS medical director, McClaine provides medical oversight for all the patient care provided by an estimated 700 EMS providers, including first responders, basic ambulances and paramedic-level services. These providers include volunteer, career, combination, municipal, commercial and tribal agencies.
