Ledyard – Power has been restored to all but 2 percent of Connecticut Light & Power customers in town following a morning incident that wiped out power to close to 2,000 residents.
The power outage was caused by a tree that fell on a power transformer on Route 12, near the intersection with Long Cove Road, and caught fire, CL&P spokeswoman Ashley Duncan said.
The incident occurred near 1532 Route 12, and traffic was backed up in the area.
As of 3 p.m., CL&P reported that 156 of its 6,581 customers in town were still without power.
