Groton — Three local men aboard two sailboats made it to shore safely after their boats capsized late Sunday afternoon.
Groton Long Point Police received several calls about 4:50 p.m. reporting a capsized sailboat and man who was in distress. When police arrived at Venetian Beach they found the man was making his way to shore on the capsized sailboat.
The sailor said he was with two other men who were aboard another boat that had capsized as well. Firefighters from Groton Long Point and Noank as well as Mystic River Ambulance personnel and the Coast Guard began to search for the two men.
Shortly after a Fishers Island boater rescued the two men and brought them to shore on Fishers Island. None of the men were injured.
