Stonington High Drama Club wins awards in statewide competition

The Stonington High School Drama Club has won six Halo awards in a statewide competition which honors excellence in high school theater.

The ceremony took place recently at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, where Stonington drama students performed a medley from "The Sound of Music" as part of the ceremony. In addition to winning the awards, Stonington students were nominated for awards in 17 categories.

The school won awards for Best Ensemble Chorus in a Musical, "The Sound of Music" and "Gypsy"; Best Ensemble Member, Ian Capozzoli; Best Couple in a Musical, Haley Barravecchia and Cory Candelet as Liesl & Rolf in "The Sound of Music"; Best Comic Performer in a Play (female), Libby Hall as Maria in "Lend Me A Tenor"; Best Student Stage Management & Running Crew, Mackenzie Angus, Kimberly Armstrong and Hannah Lyon for "The Sound of Music" and the Above and Beyond Award which went to Antonio Pereira.

Stonington was the only area school to win awards.
