New London — Former All-State forward Kerrianne Dugan of Waterford has been named the new girls' basketball coach at New London High School.
Dugan, a recent graduate of Central Connecticut State University, replaces Cas Grygorcewicz, who stepped down recently, athletic director Jeff Larson said Thursday.
Larson said Dugan emerged from a pool of eight candidates.
"She's the best fit for us and our girls," Larson said.
Dugan played all four years at Central, averaging 10.8 points, six rebounds and more than 34 minutes per game.
She was a member of the Northeast Conference's All-Rookie team in 2008 and was honored on the Northeast Conference's second team in 2009.
At Central, Dugan was part of the first women's basketball team to make the postseason National Invitational Tournament.
Dugan scored more than 1,000 points at Waterford and was named All-State in 2008. She played in state championship games in her sophomore and senior seasons. She was a two-time member of The Day's All-Area team.
"We're getting someone who played four years of college basketball," Larson said. "She's young and energetic.
"She's the kind of person we need who can teach our kids and show them how to succeed. She knows the AAU process. She'll build our program."
