This sci-fi epic thrills you one moment and make you giggle at the absurdity of it all the next. Because it's Ridley Scott returning to the genre with what is, in a way, an "Alien" prequel, it will be compared to that classic - and it pales. It's a very imperfect moviegoing experience. What's to love? Well, Michael Fassbender settles into a soothing sense of (possible) menace as an android - he's Hal for a new generation. Scott creates an eerily effective mood, all ominous foreboding. The scene in which an hysterical character gives herself an alien-baby C-section is over-the-top ridiculous. And the last scene is a sly "A ha!" sequence.
