"Discarded" sounds like the flip side to "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." In Eugene J. Celico's new play, a dozen seniors in a New England retirement home deal with feeling - as the title says - discarded. They feel dumped into a place where they have few possessions and even fewer hopes and dreams.
As if their radical life changes are not enough, they find that they clash with each, thanks to their differing social, financial and educational backgrounds.
Stage Door Theater Company is presenting "Discarded" as part of its "Live Stage Reading Series." Starring in the Wednesday reading at the Westerly Yacht Club are: Bruce Celico, Mary Sue Chiaradio, Helen Cronin, Halie Keeler, John Lamar, Jeff Blanchette, Sam Bliven, Nathon Caron, Bob Mahl, Mandy Solis and Michael Chiaradio.
Stage Door's "Live Stage Reading Series" continues on July 19 with "Wild Children," a play written by Vincent Pastore, who played "Big Pussy" on "The Sopranos"; and wraps on Aug. 9 with "Lampost Reunion" by Louis LaRusso and starring four unnamed "Sopranos" actors. Celico will direct both works.
