Gone For Good
When the One Great Barre-Chorder comes to write the name of Gone For Good in his immortal songbook, he will say, "These dudes rocked. Truly." And "Marvelous Liar," their latest and final album - the band plays a farewell show Friday in the Oasis Pub - is a pretty fabulous batch of farewell tunes. Main tunesmith Nic Johns loves to work the grinding Ramones-meets-Weezer-meets-Green Day rhythms, but never sounds old or repetitive because of a terrific sense of hookage. Tunes like "Death Box," "Star," the title track and "Velvet Blue" raise the bar on power pop, and the rhythm section of Ryan Perkins and Gene Miller perform with a particularly fine sense of sophistication.
