Cake for all: Chelsea Groton bank celebrates 158th birthday

In appreciation for its customers and in honor of the bank's 158th birthday, every Chelsea Groton Bank branch will be serving cake to its customers one day this week.

"There aren't many people that have the opportunity to celebrate a 158th birthday," said President and CEO Michael Rauh. "We're all very excited about the event and looking forward to sharing this milestone with our customers."

Chelsea Groton Bank was established on July 3, 1854 to meet the needs of small businesses and individuals in the Mystic area.

The bank held its first board meeting Jan. 9, 1855, where four loans, totaling $5,817 were approved.

The Chelsea Groton Foundation was established in 1998 with a $2 million bank grant; the foundation assists charitable organizations that provide critical care aid to those in need within the community.
