New London -- Police are seeking information on an incident late Saturday night in which shots were fired in the vicinity of 163 Huntington St.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a press release that New London police officers reported hearing shots around 9:30 p.m. Reichard said an extensive search did not turn up any witnesses but revealed "a crime scene that consisted of several spent shell casings from a handgun."

Reichard said no shooting victims were reported at the scene or at local hospitals.

At that hour the city's downtown was filled with spectators for the annual Sailfest fireworks.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the department's Detective Division at (860) 447-1481.
