Beauty, so they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Which may or may not explain why even morons like myself can stand next to "experts" and all of us almost instantly agree whether an abstract painting is any good. But … they're ABSTRACT. Hmm. A subject for greater minds, perhaps. Even so, a new solo exhibit at the Expressiones Cultural Center, featuring the work of Venezualian abstract artist Ivan Romero, should indicate that he is certainly colorful and paints an intriguing canvas (see here "Petalos de Cerezo, Petalos de Corazon"). The show opens with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Expressiones Cultural Center, 84 Bank St., New London. Runs through Aug. 4. Hours 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed.-Fri. and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sat.; (860) 501-9278, expressiones.net.
