Surf-music icon Dick Dale plays the Wolf Den

True Idiotic Story from Ricky's childhood: Whenever I listened to the radio, I thought the music was actually being performed live in one central place and all the artists showed up to sing whenever the disc jockey wanted to play a certain song.

Similarly, when I heard of "surf guitar," I literally thought bands like The Ventures and Duane Eddy played their instruments while they were surfing.

HA!

On the other hand, knowing the greatness of surf-tune godfather Dick Dale, he might very well surf into the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den Tuesday. Those casino dudes have plenty of money; I'm sure they can rig a Mack wave for Dale to crest as he comes onstage. The important thing: from the iconic "Miserlou" to "Pipeline," his Grammy-nominated duet with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the 75-year-old Dale can and will still rocketh.
