We are very fortunate to live in an area where there is so much to see and do for both young and old, but unfortunately most of us can't enjoy these places due to the high cost of admission.
Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, Block Island, Ocean Beach and the Dinosaur Place all take money to visit.
The going rate to get into the aquarium these days is $29 for an adult and $21 dollars for a child. That is almost $80 for our small family of three to just get in the door. The middle-class families of four-plus don't stand a chance.
The taxpaying residents of southeastern Connecticut and military who are stationed here should be able to receive some type of discount on admission.
Maybe a punch card of some sort is the answer. You purchase a card for an annual fee that has, say, 12 "holes" on it for a flat rate of about $300 for two adults and 1 child.
With it comes a list of participating attractions. Throughout the year you visit the places you choose, every time you get a hole punched. Once all the holes are punched that is it for that year.
We are lucky that there are many things to do that are free as well, but it would be great to enjoy the major attractions as well.
