Grace magazine wants to hear about the good guys

Published 07/16/2012 12:00 AM

People often tell me "you'd be surprised by how many men read Grace."

Well, we're very grateful to everyone who takes the time to read our publication. But not really surprised.

Grace celebrates compelling women living in our region; women who brighten their professional, civic and family lives with their intelligence and vitality. These females are fierce and lovely and funny and kind.

Who wouldn't want to read about them? And what's more, men not only read Grace, they account for more than half the story nominations we receive. Opening up our email some days is like catching the last five minutes of "When Harry Met Sally" (with thankful regard to the late Nora Ephron). The nominations we receive from husbands are among the most touching:

"My wife is the most amazing woman."

"Interesting and inspiring."

"She is the glue that holds our family together."

"Everyone who meets her, loves her."

"She has accomplished so much."

"I am in awe at how well she does everything she does."

Hallmark has nothing on these guys. And now we feel it's time to return the favor. Because the OTHER thing people often say is, "I wish you wrote about men."

Me too, sisters! We're on it. Starting with our August issue, we hope in each publication to highlight a man who is making a difference in his community or the lives of those closest to him. We want to hear about the men you love; the unsung heroes who leave the world a bit brighter just by being in it.

To live an ordinary life well is an extraordinary thing. These are the stories Grace celebrates. And we are proud to be taking this next step in making our mission statement a reality; because we mean it when we say "we believe everyone has a story to tell."

Write f.trafford@theday.com or call 860.701.4375 and tell us about the exceptional man in your life. We look forward to hearing from you.
