Free Mystic parking hours reduced

Last month the Town of Groton put aside $50,000 to provide free parking in the Mystic Art Association-Steamboat Wharf lot in response to merchants’ concerns about losing business during the ongoing Downtown Mystic Streetscape project.

Funding that was expected to last through the first week of August is expected to run out Wednesday. Officials from the three entities met earlier this week seeking a way to extend free parking to Aug. 5.

Last Sunday the time frame for free parking was reduced from five hours to two until July 28. At that date it will be reduced to a single free hour through Aug. 5.

Vehicles must enter the lot from Water Street.
