George Rivera has been hired as the baseball coach at St. Bernard School, the school announced Friday.
Rivera replaces Paul Martinez, who resigned after one season. Rivera has been the Waterford American Legion baseball coach for the last 10 seasons.
"Coach Rivera has a wealth of experience and knowledge that he will bring along with him to the Saints baseball program,'' said St. Bernard athletic director Brendan Case in a statement.
"Most importantly, he will be a great leader and teacher to the student-athletes here at St. Bernard,'' said Case. "We look forward to George carrying on the winning tradition that Saints baseball has, as well as developing our student-athletes into quality people.''
Rivera led Waterford to Zone VI titles from 2004-2008 and was the state coach of the year in 2008.
