Route 12 in Ledyard closed after car hits pole

Ledyard — A Norwich man drove his car into a utility pole on Route 12 early this morning, according to police.

Paul Lunt, 88, was taken to William W. Backus Hospital but was not seriously injured, police said. The accident, which took place about 3:30 a.m., is under investigation.

Route 12 between Long Cove Road and Inchcliffe Drive will be closed for the majority of today while utility crews repair the pole.

The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

The Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Paramedic responded.
