Wasn't Summerland the pagan island where devoutly Christian detective Neal Howie was lured - and then burned as a sacrifice in "The Wicker Man"?
If so, then the bands on the Summerland Tour - the Gin Blossoms, Everclear, Sugar Ray, Lit and Marcy Playground - should be very careful if they find giant, hollow, woven-vine statues in their dressing rooms.
Oh, wait! That was Summerisle, not Summerland.
I guess fans are safe, then, if they show up at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday to see this collection of bands. I'm not sure Everclear really fits with the rest of them, but all five certainly had plenty of hits in the '90s and early 2000s to resonate with the average music fan.
Pay special attention if the Blossoms play the overlooked masterpiece "Pieces of the Night." It's a gorgeously wistful and melancholy tune about drinking that, tragically, takes on a decidedly darker tone in the aftermath of songwriter Doug Hopkins' suicide.
