Montville - A building at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center was placed on lockdown this morning after a staff member doing routine mail inspection opened an envelope containing white powder.
Department of Correction spokesman Brian Garnett said state police and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection were notified following the 8 a.m. incident in the Radgowski building. He said the four staff members who were in the area were segregated and examined.
“There are no health issues at this time,” Garnett said.
The powder was gathered for analysis and the investigation is continuing, Garnett said. He estimated the lockdown would end at 4 p.m.
