Comcast Corp. has announced the doubling of its Internet speeds in several markets, including the Old Saybrook and Clinton area, just in time for the Summer Olympics in London.

The speed increases affect customers receiving Comcast's Xfinity Blast high-speed Internet service as well as those signing up for the so-called Extreme program.

Comcast said it would not charge extra for the higher speed Internet access. This is the seventh time in the past decade that the company has increased speeds.

"We will continue to increase speeds as customer demands evolve," said Cathy Avgiris, a Comcast executive, in a statement.
