New London – Police said a 20-year-old city man spit on, bit and kicked officers and emergency personnel that were trying to treat him Sunday afternoon.

Police said officers responded to 150 State St. around 2:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call about a violent subject in need of medical assistance. As police brought Glenn Perez downstairs from his apartment police said he started spitting on and kicking two officers, causing all three to tumble down the stairs. Both officers were injured but police did not say to what extent.

Perez was transported to the hospital and police said while there, he spit on and kicked police and medical personnel before biting the arm of an officer that tried to restrain him.

After evaluation at the hospital Perez was released to police and charged with four counts of assault on public safety or emergency medical personnel, breach of peace, interfering with an officer, threatening, three counts of second-degree assault and third-degree assault.

Perez was held on $200,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Monday in New London GA 10 Court.
