North Stonington residents defeated the proposed 2012-13 budget of $18.4 million for a third time today.
They defeated the general government budget by a vote of 438-325 and the school budget by a vote of 419-344. A total of 763 of the town’s 3,615 registered voters cast ballots. That was 63 more than the second referendum.
The town has been operating on last year’s $18.01 million budget since the fiscal year ended on June 30. The defeated budget had called for a $460,000 increase.
