My mother was just telling me about how her mailman - John, was delivering mail in Groton, when he came upon a small dog who was tied up under a glass table on July 24, a brutally hot day.
Because the dog was tied up, he got tangled, and was unable to reach his water bowl. The cry the dog was making was heartbreaking. John contacted the Groton Animal Control officer to report the incident.
Meanwhile, John got the dog untangled, and gave him water. The dog was so thirsty, he lapped up two bowls.
If John hadn't come along when he did, the dog may have died from the heat. Dogs need tons of water and a cool area when the weather is hot. This mailman was an angel for the animals.
As I type this letter, I'm crying. I'm crying because someone cared enough about this dog to help him, but I'm crying also, because some people are so cruel to helpless animals.
