Waterford - Waterford Hotel Group, the hotel-management company headquartered here, has been named to operate the Andover Inn, the historic hotel on Phillips Academy's Andover, Mass., campus, the academy announced.

The company will manage both the 30-room hotel and Samuel's, the inn's signature restaurant, beginning Sept. 1.

Built in 1930 and most recently renovated in 2010, the Andover Inn is located about 25 miles north of Boston on the academy's 500-acre campus. Phillips Academy is one of the oldest private secondary schools in the United States.

"Waterford Hotel Group has an exceptional reputation in the hospitality services industry, and we are eager to begin this new partnership," Steve Carter, Phillips Academy's chief operating and financial officer, said in a statement.

"Their portfolio includes management of properties ranging from larger full-service hotels to smaller inns, as well as properties associated with academic institutions, including Gettysburg College and Amherst College.

"We were most impressed by their team's broad and deep experience and track record of success."

Robert Winchester, president and COO of Waterford Hotel Group, said the company looked forward to working with Phillips Academy.

"The Andover Inn is rich in history and charm, and we are enthusiastic about the future of this important landmark," he said.

The inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Inns.
