Quincy, Mass. - Adam Goss pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and helped his cause with three hits and two RBI as Waterford beat Peabody, Mass. Friday, 9-1, to open the New England Babe Ruth (15) tournament.
Waterford plays Portland, Maine, today at 9 a.m.
Sam Stout went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run for Waterford and Jesse Coates and Tommy Pezzolesi each had two RBI. Also, Michael McDermott doubled.
Cyclones shut down Tigers
• Three pitchers combined on a two-hitter as the Brooklyn Cyclones beat the Connecticut Tigers, 3-0, in a New York-Penn League game played before 7,560 at MCU Park.
Starter Luis Cessa allowed two hits over five innings with four strikeouts and no walks for Brooklyn. Matthew Bowman pitched three innings of no-hit relief with three strikeouts, and John Mincone retired the side in order in the top of the ninth.
Stefan Sabol hit a two-run home run for the Cyclones (27-18). Tyler Hanover and Bennett Pickar both singled for the Tigers (18-26).

• Brian McGugan had three hits to lead Esh's to a 6-4 win over the ACD Rangers in a game played Thursday. McGugan doubled twice, scored and drove in a run and Paul Martinez and Jesse Sutherland each scored twice for Esh's (15-5). Anthony Ruffo singled, tripled and drove in three runs for the Rangers (8-10).

Albin plays in World Series
• Cameron Albin of Pawcatuck was recently selected to play in the 2012 Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City, the spring training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in Bradenton, Fla. His team went on to win the championship earlier this week.
Albin, a right-handed pitcher and third baseman, attends Mystic Middle School.
