Kayla Williams (pictured at bottom of center column), a 17-year-old New London High School graduate, and Jennifer Murphy (at top of center column), an 18-year-old graduate from Stonington High School, each won a $1,000 scholarship funded by the Latin Network for the Visual Arts based in Gales Ferry. The scholarships, distributed by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, will help toward the young women's college educations in contemporary art.
Williams will study at Three Rivers Community College. She works with ceramics and other visual art forms but loves photography. Murphy will study at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in a Master of Fine Arts program. She employs a variety of mediums, including acrylic, charcoal, pen and mixed media.
