So Mr. Controversy himself, Michael Buscetto III, has revealed he is the "man behind the curtain" in New London's current political drama. Again. ("Finizio is showing four-year term is too long," July 29.)
Just like the National GOP, Buscetto's recent commentary contains tall ship-sized holes in its logic, assumes no one will ask the obvious questions we've already answered, and attacks the mayor while his administration is trying to dig our city out of the mess that Buscetto and the "good old boys" helped create.
His former lawyer and campaign supporter, Gordon Videll, is pushing the budget referendum forward along with a charter revision proposal to attempt to force the mayor from office. His stalwart supporter, Mark Christensen, is launching attacks from the P&Z Commission. Then, of course, there is Councilor Marie Friess-McSparran, one of his biggest campaign supporters. She has shown that her primary concern is to obstruct the mayor, even if it means voting against a contract approved 54-4 by the firefighters' union containing the very things she promised to support.
It's time for Buscetto and company to move on. We voted, you lost. Let these people do their job. New London just came out of the woods, why would you think we'd want to go right back in?
