Wind energy industry supports more than 75,000 jobs around the country and is leading the way toward America's clean-energy future. With the right policies in place the wind energy industry could support 500,000 jobs by 2020. More than 400 American manufacturing plants build wind components.

The Production Tax Credit (PTC), a federal policy that helps level the playing field, has been a key driver in the wind industry job growth over the past decade. The PTC is set to expire at the end of 2012, and if it is not renewed, approximately half of all existing U.S. wind job are expected to be lost. This would add as many as 37,000 people to the already huge unemployment list.

Congress has the opportunity to protect jobs and public health by supporting the PTC and helping the country transition away from dirty energy. Congress should support American wind energy jobs instead of subsidizing big polluters like the oil industry who are already making record profits.

Congress should vote now to extend the PTC.
