Taber homer lifts Mystic Junior League softball to next round

Caroline Taber hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning and pitched 10 innings, striking out 16, as the Mystic Junior League all-star softball team (ages 13-14) defeated Westerly 8-6 to advance to the elimination round of the Eastern Regional tournament in West Haven.

Mystic, which advanced with a record of 2-2, earning the third seed in the New England bracket, will face No. 2 East Biddeford, Maine (2-2) at 10:30 a.m. today. The winner of that game will meet top-seeded West Haven (4-0) later in the afternoon for the New England title.

Taber finished 5-for-5 with four RBI, while Mackenzie Aldridge had three hits and two runs and Katherine Georgetti had two hits.

On Monday, Mystic lost to West Haven 8-1.
