If you at all keep up with popular culture or contemporary music, you'll know that the only bands in the world worthy of anyone's attention right now are in Brooklyn. It's as though Brooklyn is some huge, incubating hen-house of Important Music, and woe indeed to anyone attempting to write songs anywhere else.
Fortunately, Ava Luna, the soulful Brooklyn pop band coming Friday to New London's Oasis Pub, lends a great deal of credibility to the hype. With easy hooks, cascading vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters (!), and a wink-wink but affectionate knowledge of classic soul arrangements, Ava Luna is the real deal.
