AT&T is asking motorists to stop driving and texting

Wireless provider AT&T is asking drivers to pledge to stop texting while driving.

Drivers can to go to www.itcanwait.com to take the no-texting-and-driving pledge, and then share their promise with others via Twitter (#itcanwait) and Facebook.

More than 100,000 times each year, an automobile crashes and people are injured or die while a driver was texting and driving, said AT&T Connecticut State President Rodney Smith, citing a statistic from the National Safety Council1.

Anyone can stop by an AT&T store and to pick up a free "No Text on Board" car sticker.

An online driving simulator will be available at www.itcanwait.com in the coming weeks so that people can experience the dangers of texting while driving. AT&T also will bring an in-car simulator to more than 200 locations before the end of the year.

AT&T will deliver the no-texting-while-driving message on TV ads and through social media.
