The beer that celebrates New London will celebrate its first birthday Saturday with a party at The Commoner.
For the anniversary of the self-proclaimed “official beer of the Whaling City,” the public is invited to The Commoner on Bank Street for food and drink specials and live music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Fred Argilagos, a co-owner of the Thames River Greenery and its wine and spirits shop, is the brains behind Safe Harbor beer and its initial offering, an American blonde ale. Argilagos’ team used Cottrell Brewing Company in Pawcatuck to create, brew and bottle Safe Harbor.
While Cottrell brews Narragansett and other beers on a contractual basis, Safe Harbor is a partnership.
