The recent controversy in Montville about the spending practices of the Board of Education is nothing more than a red herring perpetrated by the Democrats. They started with a false rumor that the board had a surplus of $3 million. Then, at the Town Council meeting of Aug. 13, they passed a resolution to "require" the board to provide them with information the board is already providing the town voluntarily. That resolution is illegal because the board members are elected by the people, not appointed by the council.
The truth is that the spending practices of the Board of Education this year is no different than in the past. However, the board in now made up of five Republicans and four Democrats. The Democrats want to reverse that at next year's election, so they are merely preparing a campaign issue by trying to blame Republicans for spending to much money on education.
The rantings of Councilor Buebendorf and Councilor Murphy at the Town Council meeting was merely a show they put on for the media; but the people of Montville are not fooled.
Which U.S. Senate candidate looks more likely to win in November coming out of the Tuesday primary?
