Deep River - Phil Cohen passed for 142 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Valley Regional/Old Lyme football team to a 49-0 win over Nonnewaug Friday night in a Pequot Football Conference Sassacus Division game.
Justin Cheverier rushed for 55 yards on six carries and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jean-Luc Pollard in the second quarter as Valley (1-0, 1-0) took a 35-0 halftime lead.
Chris Jean-Pierre and Evan Smith each run for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass, Tyler Cheverier ran for a touchdown, Dan Figuenick returned an interception 46 yards for the final touchdown and Ricky Harrison went 5-for-6 on extra points.
In other games:
• Windham overcame a 21-6 halftime deficit by exploding for 32 second-half points to defeat visiting East Lyme 38-21.
Christian Clarke, who rushed for 160 yards on 16 carries, scored two of his three touchdowns in the second half for the Whippets (1-1).
The Vikings (0-2) led 14-6 after one quarter on short TD runs by Eric Stirtan (two yards) and Corey Brimmer (one), then took a 21-6 lead on Dean Beebe's 7-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Murphy with 7:32 left in the half. Adam Opsahl kicked all three extra points.
Stirtan rushed for 136 yards on 23 carries while Brimmer had 65 yards on 11 carries.
• St. Bernard/Norwich Tech scored the first touchdown of the game, but Plainfield came roaring back for a 43-6 win in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division game.
St. Bernard (0-2, 0-1) took the lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Phil Jenkins, which came after Jenkins intercepted a pass. St. Bernard was limited to 135 yards on offense and seven first downs.
Sophomore Jordan Federer ran for two touchdowns and 95 yards and Mason Delorge also scored twice for Plainfield (2-0, 1-0).
• Griswold quarterback Adam Davis ran eight yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines (2-0) rallied for a 13-12 victory over Waterford.
The Lancers (0-2) trailed 7-0 halftime but took took a 12-6 lead with a pair of third quarter scores, the first a 1-yard run by quarterback Seth Hoagland and the second a 36-yard run by Bishme Sheppard. Waterford, however, failed to convert either conversion.
Sheppard led the Lancers by rushing for 76 yards on 13 carries while Deion Pittman caught four passes for 62 yards. Jordan Gionet scored on a 3-yard run for Griswold in the first quarter and Joe Gregory added the extra point.
