Public hearing on Norwich soup kitchen plan moved to Council chambers

Norwich – In anticipation of a large crowd interested in the public hearing on relocating the St. Vincent de Paul Place soup kitchen to the former St. Joseph School, the Commission on the City Plan has moved Tuesday’s meeting to City Council chambers.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. October 16 in Council chambers rather than at the planning office conference room at 23 Union St. next door.

The commission will hold a public hearing on a special permit request by St. Vincent Executive Director Jillian Corbin on behalf of St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Congregation, which owns the school, to keep the soup kitchen there permanently.

St. Vincent’s moved to the former school cafeteria in June because of structural repairs at the former location at the former city train station. The Diocese of Norwich announced in September that it would not be moving back to the train station.
