The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Connecticut, which provides bedding for low-income families in the region, has been approved for a $2,500 grant from People's United Community Foundation.

The Gales Ferry-based organization was one of 95 nonprofits to receive a portion of the $610,000 in fourth-quarter grants given away by the foundation.

For all of 2012, the foundation will give away more than $2.2 million. About a third of the donations go to community-development programs, another third to youth development and about a quarter to affordable-housing initiatives.
