Mystic Chamber announces gala, honorees

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce will hold the 2012 Annual Dinner Dec. 6 at the Mystic Marriott, where it will present its annual awards.

The chamber is celebrating its 75th Anniversary.

The 2012 Community Service Award will go to Ana Schneider, President of ASA Environmental Products Inc. in Stonington. Among the organizations benefiting from her efforts have been Muscular Dystrophy, Garde Arts Center, All Women's Charity Golf Benefit, SECT Hispanic Community, Congregation Beth El, Summer Music, The Women's Center, Mystic Arts Center and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

She has also served on the Board of Directors of United Community & Family Service, National Association of Women in Construction, Dwight Hall at Yale University, Summer Music at Harkness, Lyman Allyn Art Museum, American Red Cross of Connecticut, and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.

The 2012 Employer of the Year Award will go to Jonathan Duncklee, vice president of Duncklee Cooling and Heating. His staff has grown from eight employees to as many as 35.

He has also been active in the community working with Hygienic Art, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Garde Arts Center, the Eugene O'Neill Theater, MASH, Hospice of SECT and The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center's Campaign to Preserve Coogan Farm.

The 2012 Volunteers of the Year Award goes to Mark and Mike Sauchuk from MJ Sauchuk, Inc. In 1991 the brothers formed a company and what started with one little garbage truck and has grown into a company with 15 trucks. Years ago Mark and Mike Sauchuk contacted the chamber to see if they could help with the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival and the Taste of Mystic. They pay their employees to empty all the garbage cans continuously for all three days of the Taste.

The Joshua Piver Memorial Scholarship, which is managed by the Mystic Chamber Foundation, was awarded this year to Stonington High School senior Nicholas Silvia. Silvia is a scholar athlete who cares deeply about his peers and his family.
