    Local colleges: Conn College men fall to ECSU

    Willimantic - Eastern Connecticut State outscored Connecticut College 7-2 in the final 1:27 Tuesday night, winning the nonleague men's basketball game 84-79.

    The teams were tied 77-77 before ECSU (3-1) scored seven straight points to take an 84-77 lead before Tyron Turner made a layup for Conn with nine seconds left. Matt Vadas scored a game-high 33 points, Turner scored 16, Aaron McBurnie had 12 points and Jared Shill had six assists.

    In other games:

    • Mitchell College suffered its first loss of the season, losing to Albertus Magnus 87-74 in a nonleague game. Devonta Mosley scored 20 points, Josh Ford had 17 points and seven rebounds and Alex Del Rio and Anthony Epps scored 13 each for Mitchell (3-1).

    • UConn-Avery Point fell to top-ranked Gateway Community College 83-71 Monday night. Philkwan Tate had 22 points and eight rebounds, Malcolm Simmons had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Sam Turner scored 14 with four steals for the Pointers (2-6).

    Women's basketball

    • UConn-Avery Point trailed 37-23 at halftime and fell to No. 3 Roxbury Community College 65-48. Jackie Riera had 18 points and Kim Bouten scored 13 for Avery Point (4-3).
