Recycling makes big impact in state

Recycling may not be glamorous, but it pays the bills.

According to a report released Tuesday by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, recycling will add nearly $750 million and 4,800 jobs to the state's economy this year. The industry directly contributes $435 million in sales annually and provides more than 2,710 jobs, with economic enhancements coming through ripple effects, said the report commissioned by the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority.

Since 2006, the report states, recycling has grossed $5.17 billion in sales statewide. "This study shows recycling is a vibrant and growing sector of our state's economy," said CRRA President Thomas D. Kirk.
