    Police identify pedestrian killed by bus near Mohegan Sun

    Mohegan — Police this morning have identified the pedestrian killed after being struck by a bus on Sandy Desert Road as 62-year-old Pui Yi Li, of Elmhurst, N.Y.

    Police said at about 3:04 p.m. Wednesday they received numerous 9-1-1 calls alerting them to the bus versus pedestrian accident that happened directly in front of the Mohegan Tribal Public Safety building.

    When emergency personnel arrived, they found that Li had been struck by the bus while attempting to cross the street. Police said she sustained traumatic facial and head injuries. She was an employee of the casino, police said.

    Police said the driver of the bus Lin Qi Si, 38, of Braintree, Mass., was not injured. The bus is owned by Tribal Sun Bus Company LLC of Rockland, Mass.

    Li was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

    Police said currently no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.

    The Connecticut State Police Traffic Services Unit's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad, the state police Truck Squad and the state Department of Motor Vehicles is also assisting with the investigation.

    Casino spokeswoman Cathy Soper said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by this loss and our thought and prayers are with the family at this time. We are working together with officials and aiding in every way possible to assist with the investigation of this tragedy."
