Make a difference: Outreach to Haiti

WHO: Joane Udele and her husband, 8-year-old daughter and 1-year-old twins in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

AGENCY: Outreach to Haiti for the Diocese of Norwich, an agency in Connecticut and Haiti that has served for 25 years children and families living in extreme poverty in Haiti's capital.

SITUATION: Joane's infant twins nearly died last May from malnourishment. Neither Joane nor her husband has been able to find work since Haiti's earthquake in 2010, when their home was leveled and much of their neighborhood destroyed.

They could not afford treatment or proper food for their babies but were led to a free medical clinic run by Outreach. The infants and the Udele family were immediately admitted into a Nutrition Program that treats children with emergency and long-range care. They are enrolled in classes on nutrition and best practices for food purchases and home-keeping. The program's doctor and nurses monitor families for months, even years.

WHAT TO GIVE: Donations to fund purchases in Haiti of: medicine; food; water; and clothing for the Udele family and 44 other families currently enrolled in the Nutrition Program.

TO DONATE: Mail to: Outreach to Haiti, 199 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360. More info at: info@outreachtohaiti.org, or 860.848.2237 ext. 206. Ask for Kyn Tolson. (www.outreachtohaiti.org)
