    New London boys win Shoreline Invite indoor track meet

    New Haven - New London High School won the boys' team title at Shoreline Conference Coaches' Invitational indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

    The Whalers, who won three events, finished with 49 points, nine better than runnerup North Branford.

    Orrin Parke and Nico Ramos played a role in all three of New London's victories. Parke won the 55-meter dash in 6.79 seconds, Ramos captured the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 includes, and the two joined Jose Garcia and Gabriel Diaz to win the 4x200 relay in 1:35.43.

    Parke also added a second in the 300 (37.50), Jose Garcia was third in the 55 (6.95) and Diaz was fourth in the 300 (38.07).

    Among the other local competitors, Montville's Jesse Joseph was fourth in the 1,600 (4:44.87), the Indians' 4x800 relay team of Joseph, Kevin Fitzgerald, Dan Linkinhoker and Aaron Sheldon was fifth (9:00.33), Old Lyme's Jeff Davis was fourth in the 1,000 (2:47.02) and Montville's Brandon Robertson was sixth in the shot put (42-3).

    In the girls' meet, New London's Mercedes Santos won the high jump (5 feet) as the Whalers tied for fourth with 30 points (Old Saybrook won with 57).

    Also for New London, Francine Jacque placed second in the 55 (7.55), the 4x200 relay team of Jacque, Santos, Mia Santana and Alyssa Manso finished third (1:54.74) and the 4x400 relay team of Santana, Manso, Jacque and Manuela Duran placed third (4:29.17).

    Other local place-winners included Montville's Natalie Bowens in the long jump (3rd, 16-5½), Old Lyme's Ali Scott in the 300 (3rd, 44.53) and 600 (6th, 1:45.92) and Waterford's Savannah Artis in the 55 (5th, 7.79).
