Montville’s new public safety building will open with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. Saturday after more than five years of planning and construction.

The new building will house the town’s police department, resident state trooper, dispatch center and animal control.

The committee that oversaw the project, Mayor Ronald K. McDaniel, former mayor Joseph W. Jaskiewicz and Police Lt. Leonard Bunnell will cut the ceremonial ribbon for the facility, which was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

Tours will follow the formal program in the Community Room and throughout the day, with a special tour for children between 3 and 4 p.m. KinderVision, which teaches children how to recognize sexual predators, will be available throughout the day.

The new facility, funded in part by a grant from the state, relocates police operations from a leased Route 2A toll house building. Local citizens will have free access to the 40-seat Community Room that will double as a command center in the event of a major disaster.

The public is invited to all events.
