    NRBQ: Keeping the legacy goin'

NRBQ - the New Rhythm 'n' Blues Quartet - is not new, having been around since the year "Sgt. Pepper" and "Are You Experience" came out. They don't play R&B, either; at least not in the titular form you'd expect from Peppermint Harris or Ray Charles.

And, in fact, of the original band, only keyboardist Terry Adams remains.

And yet ... NRBQ still brings it in grand fashion. This is a wonderful live band with as big an affection for their loyal fan base as it is fluent in all manners of pop music. In the past two years, the Adams-led group has released two very competitive and representative albums, "Keep This Love Goin'" and "We Travel the Spaceways," and a heavy tour schedule brings them to Old Saybrook's Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center for a much-anticipated performance on Saturday.

    - RICK KOSTER

NRBQ, 8 p.m. Saturday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $38; 1-877-503-1286, thekate.org.
