Guitar virtuoso Jesse Cook returns to the Garde

    Here's a fun idea:

Print out one of those snarky critics' lists of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Ever and take it with you Sunday to New London's Garde Arts Center.

Then, when Jesse Cook takes the stage and starts to play, rip the stinkin' "Greatest Guitarists" list into shreds because A) Cook isn't on any of those lists and B) he damned well should be perched way up at the top.

Cook sold out the venue's intimate Oasis Room in 2009 and has graduated to the Garde's main stage - deservedly so. As I wrote of that Oasis show: "The Canadian guitarist brought a virtuoso five-piece band and launched flamenco guitar and repertoire into the new century with gorgeous technique, heart-melt songwriting and affable wit. ... Cook is a guitar god for the ages ..."

On his latest album, "The Rumba Foundation," Cook and company explore the music and rhythms of Colombia - and it should be dazzling.
